The program files and database may be exist on a shared network drive, or even a removable storage device such as a flash or usb drive. This is useful for situations in which the laptop computer is used outside of the office or is not connected to a network. This option is only available for Access databases. A separate, but more technically involved solution exists for SQL Server databases.
The NFSMI FUNDamentals and MyFUNDamentals software database locations (Access only) may be changed by simply moving the NFSMI.mdb file from it's current location to any other desired location. For new installations, the NFSMI FUNDamentals Installer allows for the program files and database to be installed on a network drive or share. The installer also features a Custom Intallation in which the database is not installed. The recommended steps for a new multiple user setup are:

  1. Download the full installation on the primary user's workstation.
  2. Double-Click the FUNDamentals.exe file to start the installation.
  3. Enter the installer password provided by calling (888)228-3120.
  4. Proceed through the installation until you reach the first Destination Folder screen.
  5. Click the Change Button
  6. You may navigate to local and network drives with the 'Look in' drop box or you may type or paste a UNC path to the desired network share.
  7. Click the Next Button. The installer will suggest the database location. If this is OK, click Next, otherwise, change the database location in the same manner as you changed the program destination folder.
  8. Click the Next Button. Under Setup Type, be sure that Typical is selected, then click Next.
  9. Click Finish to exit the installer.
  10. For each additional user:
    1. Download the FUNDamentals Component Installation. You may download to a network share, then copy from there.
    2. Double-Click the FUNDComp.exe file to start the installation. This installation contains only program dependencies that are needed on all systems where NFSMI FUNDamentals will be run.
    3. Proceed through the installation until you reach the Destination Folder screen.
    4. Click the Change Button
    5. You may navigate to local and network drives with the 'Look in' drop box or you may type or paste a UNC path to the network folder containing the FUNDamentals program files. (this is the location from step 6 above)
    6. Click the Next button and verify the information.
    7. Click the Next button to finish the installation.
    8. Click Finish to exit the installer.
    9. Double-click the FUNDamentals icon that was created on the user desktop. The program will report a database connection error. At this point, you may navigate to the database and click the Update button.

For existing installations, it is simply a matter of copying the database and program files to the desired network share and changing the shortcuts to point to this new location.
