Checklist for Installation of FUNDamentals and Point of Service 

 

1.                               You must log on to the workstation with Administrative privileges to install The School Food Service Director and FUNDamentals software!

 

2.                              Section I: Installing FUNDamentals

  1. Download FUNDamentals.exe from the following web address :http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/FUNDamentals/FUNDamentals.exe
  2. Install FUNDamentals by double-clicking the FUNDamentals.exe file that was downloaded in step 1. You must enter a password to initiate the installation. The password is 7277233FULL. (case sensitive) When prompted by the InstallShield wizard, please select the option to install the software for ALL Users.
  3. When prompted for the database location, select the location of your exisiting FUNDamentals database.
  4. When prompted for the installation type, select Custom, and remove the checkmark for installing the database.
  5. Update FUNDamentals from the following web address: http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/FUNDamentals/Updates/FUNDUpdate.exe (opt to 'Open' or 'Run' and answer 'Yes' to any prompts)

 

      Section II: Installing Point of Service for the schools

         

  1. Create a folder for the POS database and copy the existing POS database to that location.
    1. The location of the database will depend on the user of the computer being installed.  The POS database is a shared database to all point of service lines.  The best location for the shared database is the local manager computer.  It is never a good idea to place this file on a computer outside of the local area network.  For further advice on the POS database location call 888-228-3120.
  2. Setup a new System DSN named ‘PtofService’ using the ODBC Data Source Administrator:
    1. Open ODBC Data Source Manager

                                                               i.     
  • Click the System DNS tab.
  • Click the Add button to add the DSN ‘PtofService’.
  • Choose Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)
  • Click the Finish button.
  • Enter PtofService for the Data Source Name.
  • Click the Select button.
  • Navigate to the downloaded and extracted POS.mdb.
  • Click the OK button after verifying that the correct database location is displayed above the Select button.  
  • Click the OK button after verifying that the correct database location is displayed above the Select button.
  • Click the OK button on the ODBC Data Source Administrator screen.
 
The ODBC Data Source Administrator can be located from the Windows Control Panel or Administrative Tools.  Please refer to Windows Help if are unsure how to find the Control Panel or Administrative Tools.

                                                             ii.      Follow these steps screen will be displayed:

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Run CreateLinks Utility located at the following web address: http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/POS/Patches/CreateLinks.exe

This utility will establish the required database links between the NFSMI database and the POS database.  This utility needs to be executed again if the FUNDamentals database changes location.

  1. Run POSInstall Utility from the following web address: http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/POS/POSInstall.exe to install the point of service software.
  2. Modify Internet Explorer properties to the appropriate settings by running the IE Configuration tool at: http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/POS/Patches/ConfigureIE.exe
  3. With Internet Explorer started type the following address in the address bar: http://www.thefoodservicedirector.com/Software/POS/Start/POSID.htm and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.  This will start the Point of Service software. 
    1. First Time Users Only: If this is the first time users have started Point of Service, the necessary components will be downloaded.  Wait for the process to be completed and The Food Service Director’s Point of Service screen to be displayed. 
    2. Choose the Favorite menu option from Internet Explorer’s menu option at the top of the screen. 
    3. Choose the Add to Favorites menu option.   
    4. Click Make Available Offline.
    5. Click Customize.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Select Yes.
    8. Enter 3 in the text area designating Download Pages (#of Pages) links deep from this page.
    9. Click the Next button.
    10. Verify the option ‘Only when I chose Synchronize from the Tools menu’ has been selected.
    11. Click the Next button.
    12. Verify the option ‘No’ is selected when prompted ‘Does this site require a password?’
    13. Click the Finish button.
    14. Click the OK button.

Line Callout 1: Imports all SASI files in place of utilizing the individual Update buttons.
 
Line Callout 3 (Border and Accent Bar): Is used to export SASI information to other applications.

  1. Click the 'Start FSD Point of Service' button to start the software and check the network speed

 

Section III: Enabling Bar Code Printing

 

The barcode font needed for the printing of Student IDs is located in the C:\FSDPOS folder. Use the Windows Fonts control panel to install the new font if you will be using this function. Call 888-228-3120 for further instructions.
